3 Reasons to Stop Trying To Do Everything

Do you ever feel like your life is just not going away? Like, every time you get off track even for one weekend (or week) it seems as though there is someone waiting to throw another monkey wrench at you.

And I know how frustrating this feels because lately my own personal goals have suffered from being pulled back onto task again and again – but don’t worry; there are plenty of things you can to do get on and stay on track.

I want to talk with all those who might be feeling similar about their progress towards success when they finally achieve them…

And I know how frustrating this feels because lately my own personal goals have suffered from being pulled back onto task again and again – but don’t worry; there are plenty of things you can to do get on and stay on track.

I want to talk with all those who might be feeling similar about their progress towards success when they finally achieve them…

First… Give yourself grace!  I know what that feels like… It wasn’t long ago I would go on vacation and panic would strike through me!! Where to eat, where to workout.  It was a lot, and it would be this whole extra layer on top of, “Hey, you’re going on freaking vacation!” Then, you have to have a plan! A plan for your nutrition and a plan for your fitness and workouts. I am a former winger, so having these things planned out is clutch!

Nutrition Plan
Things in my life aren’t as spontaneous as they used to be.  Now at this point in my life, I know my plan, I know what I am doing this weekend and next, etc. And I pretty much know when I go away and when we travel. So, looking ahead is very important. If I am going away, I make sure that I have food in the house. So that means I am buying 2 weeks’ worth of groceries in 1 week, buying things I can freeze or hold good until then.

Ordering from Instacart or curbside pickup so that there IS FOOD IN THE HOUSE is another great option!  Double cook your food as much as possible. I freshly cooked my dinner and breakfast. The only precooked food is for my lunch, which includes Chicken, Salmon or Shrimp for my lunch.  I will double cook that and freeze the second half. (let it completely cool on the counter before you freeze it or it will taste like crap!)  Precook things and throw it into the freezer, precooked meals or utilize takeout. I used to live on takeout before Rona, because guess what… There are so many options besides pizza and Chinese! BUT, if that’s all there is, you can find healthy stuff there, just stay away from the fried foods.  There are other options if we start to expand our horizons past pizza and Chinese!

Workout Plan
The weekend is 2 days, so if you travel on a Friday, have all day Saturday and part of the day Sunday then head back home, you can use Saturday & Sunday as your rest days for the week.  While away, you can go for a walk, ride bikes, kayak, paddle board, or go for a run! Does my workout have to look like it does when I am at home? – No, it doesn’t! Can it be different? – YES IT CAN!

What makes a good workout? You don’t need a 2-hour workout!  Am I breathing heavy, are my muscles burning, am I sweating? These are the 3 big things!  If you think about that.. I can get that kind of workout if I put in the intensity.  If you have more in the tank, then you can do more, go for a walk, or add on to your workout!

Really start thinking about, what do you want more of in your life? Do we want to have more of a life or have more days revolving around workouts and food? A lot of my fitness journey has also been more of a personal development journey. I had to ask myself the hard questions people don’t want to ask themselves. Or admit… I didn’t want to admit I was unhappy. And because I was unhappy, I used the gym! (I said if I wanted to get happy, I have to do something else.)

If I go away and I am all hopped up about my food and nutrition, think about, go in with the mindset that I am going to do my best.  We can find the balance between having a drink and not turning into 40. We can find a balance with having an appetizer and not turn into a weekend of debauchery. I can find this happy medium of honoring the commitment to my health and mixing in the fun!

There is a balance here and I know everyone can find it. We just have to give ourselves the grace and not go 30 rounds up here when we disappoint ourselves. WE will always disappoint yourself and that is ok! The question is just, what is next. What is my next action?  The next action determines my direction.
