Fewer Americans are getting the recommended seven to nine hours of sleep than previous generations. The lack of restful sleep causes an increase in the release of appetite-stimulating hormones. Research is also looking at the use of technology before bed — ie your kindles, ipads, iphone, etc. The artificial light created may disrupt normal sleep patterns.
